Nurse's aide Jonesy is drawn to Michael, the comatose victim of a hate crime
whose homophobic parents have rejected him. Jonesey sits with Michael, reads
to him, and encourages Michael to wake up. Jonesy may not be the smartest
guy in the world, but he knows Michael needs him. And if he also thinks
Michael is the most beautiful thing he's ever seen, well, Jonesy knows
better than to hope for things that can never happen. Michael is lost in a
dungeon, a dark and terrifying place. His only comfort is the sound of a
man's voice. Can Michael come back? Does he want to? Maybe Jonesy can
convince him that some things are worth living for.

Author Extra:

I’ve always loved the tale of Sleeping Beauty. There’s something so dark
and frightening about being trapped in sleep, unable to awaken, as if stuck
in an endless nightmare. When I sat down to think of a story with a fairy
tale theme to submit to this anthology, I knew I wanted a contemporary
setting, something that used modern technology in some way to contrast with
the lines of a classic tale. “Before I Wake” is the story of a young man
lost in a coma in a modern hospital. Thanks to his love of The Lord of the
Rings, the form Michael’s mind shapes around that nightmare is that of a
deep dungeon filled with threatening shadows. To his rescue comes a glowing
knight—Jonesy. In the waking world, Jonsey is only a nurse’s aide, a big
galoot with a tough exterior and a soft heart who’s befriended Michael’s
sleeping form. In Michael’s nightmare, though, Jonesy takes on epic
proportions. Will Jonesy’s encouragement and love be enough to convince
help Michael escape the dungeon?

What is it about werewolves?

Why are readers and movie goers so attracted to werewolf stories? Is it because we all love to cuddle a furry puppy who trusts us and offers us unconditional love?

Do we want to add that devotion and love to the thought of a hot, hard, hunky man who is strong, protective, and dominant?

I have to admit the idea of the Alpha, protective male, is delicious. The man who puts his mate first in his priorities and is physically equipped to fulfill all his/her needs. Add to that some cuddling and, oh yeah, I’m there.

In “Dogged Pursuit” Dwyer is convinced his mate is another male, Nelson.

In “Were the Hell?” the two men know they’re right for each other, but there’s magic in the air as well.

And in “Werewolves Don’t Fly” Iain, the werewolf in that story, is united with Mermae and Kade whose paranormal abilities are quite different from his.

But in every case the men are strong, capable, and utterly devoted to their partners.

Jennifer Sebastiano likes having control of her life. As a psychic, more
control is always better. Her lovers, Danny Valentine and Peter Vthoulkas
feel pretty much the same way for similar reasons. But life has a way of
turning sideways for everybody, even Division P operatives--maybe especially
Division P operatives. When Danny’s mental protections start to fail and Jen
runs into a mugger, Peter’s suddenly got his hands full. As their lives get
complicated, none of the three likes living four or five hours apart, but
Jen isn’t sure she wants to turn her life completely upside down to move
nearer the guys either. Why is it always the woman who has to upend her
universe when relationships get serious? Now life has dumped a whole lot of
trouble into their laps and the three of them have to figure out how to
handle it all. These are the sorts of issues that either pull lovers closer
together--or split them apart. And it’s pretty much up to Jen to decide
which it will be.

Author Extra:

Since Coconut oil is featured in a “non-consumable” use in the book I
thought I’d give you a yummy edible use.

Black and White Toasted Coconut Fudge

Servings: 16
Preparation Time: 10 minutes
•10 oz white chocolate
•7 oz sweetened condensed milk*
•2 tablespoons butter, divided
•2 tablespoons coconut oil, divided
•9 oz dark chocolate
•7 oz sweetened condensed milk
•1 cup unsweetened dried coconut flakes, toasted

Place white chocolate, milk, 1 tablespoon butter and 1 tablespoon coconut
oil into a medium sized saucepan over low heat. Stir until chocolate has
melted. Spread unto bottom of parchment or wax paper lined 8x8 glass pan.

Repeat for dark chocolate layer, using the last tablespoons of butter and
coconut oil. Spread onto white chocolate layer. The layers will not be even
but that's part of the fun!

Press toasted coconut onto top of fudge and refrigerate or freeze until
firm. Cut into small pieces and enjoy!

Note: If you want even layers instead of the marbled look place the dark
chocolate layer on the bottom

Troubled by doubts about his place in the kingdom and in court, Ketu fills his days with looking after Damal’s household and children, and helping anyone who comes to him for assistance. When people try to worship him as the Face of Azhur, the child of their main god, Ketu tells them only to live good lives. He enjoys a passionate, if sometimes frustrating, relationship with Damal, but even this makes him wonder if he'll end up like former diamonds after the king's death, despairing and alone.
Hoping to cheer him, Damal takes Ketu to the newly-restored summer palace, where they enjoy each other's company and explore the countryside. Seers warn Ketu about Damal's recklessness, but he puts them out of his mind until Damal's life hangs by a thread. Only then does Ketu explore the full depth of his powers and what it means to be a gift from the gods.

When Charlie tours with his band, Wes stays home in Chicago. It works
because Wes' podcast has become his job, and he's always there when Charlie
needs him. But when they throw a welcome home party for their newly-married
best friends, Wes realizes how much Charlie expects from him without asking
at all.

Everything comes to a head in a drunken declaration, which might be a
proposal, except instead of a diamond, Charlie offers up Michael Jackson's
Thriller. Music is what brought them together, what made them fall in love,
and the biggest part of their life, but even Wes doesn't know what Michael
Jackson has to do with Charlie down on one knee.

Author Extra:

Hello, internet!

As you know, Rootabaga! is on tour. Right now, Heidi is face first in a
plate of corned beef hash, Sean is up at the counter, surveying the pie
situation, and I'm here on my laptop, writing to you from a diner on the
road between New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

If you weren't at The Stack last night, you missed out. The city may be the
birthplace of American jazz, but the kids like the sound of a Marshall amp,
too. I'm trying to convince Heidi to start the set with a little Bryan Adams
because “everywhere we go, the kids wanna rock.”

But enough about music. I know what you really want. You want to hear the
gossip from the road. This is our first tour on our brand new bus
(christened Ruth Bussy with a bottle of gas station wine), but it's also my
first tour with the married couple. Sean and Heidi are just as insufferable
as you might expect of two people coming up on their first wedding
anniversary. When they're not being insufferable, they're having sex in the
TV room.

I miss my boyfriend and my cats and my own couch to watch my own TV. But I
know, as soon as we get back home to Chicago, I'll be desperate to get out
and play. Such is the life of a traveling musician.

Wes always seems to text me when I'm on stage; I don't know how he knows.
It's like how my mom always knew the exact time to knock on my door when I
was 13 and looking for some alone time. Sorry, TMI. So I call Wes back when
we get to the bus, and he's angry I woke him up. Or maybe he's just angry
because the cats are giving him attitude.

Rootabaga! is playing The Room in Baton Rouge tonight. Come out say hello!
I'll be at the merch table before the show—hugs for a buck! (After the show,
I'll be taking a shower. You don't want a hug from me after the show.)
Tomorrow, tune in to Wes' podcast, live at noon Central. Heidi, Sean, and me
will be in the TV, talking about the tour, and not having sex. You'll want
to hear that.

But first we have to get back on the road. Sean's brought back a piece of
lemon meringue, and the meringue is epic. Not that I get to taste it, but it
is literally a mile high. Only Heidi gets to taste Sean's meringue.

One more month 'til our welcome home show in Chicago. One more month until I
get to see my boyfriend, unless Wes is planning something along the way,
hint hint. One more month to spend with you, the best fans a rock and roll
band could ask for, especially one who will never sell-out stadiums, but
always sells out of t-shirts.

Your friend in rock,
Charlie Mullen

Rory Goodwin is fascinated by his mysterious neighbor in 4C. A chance
meeting gives Rory an opportunity to get to know Alec Conroy and his world,
but it takes a stranger for Rory to learn the full truth about Alec. Can
Rory protect Alec from the forces pursuing him? Will he, despite his fears?

Author Extra:

In many fairy tales, the wolf is the bad guy. The reason for this is simple:
wolves were a terrifying part of reality in Europe during the time period
when fairy tales came into being. This has translated into modern
storytelling as use of the wolf, and the werewolf, as a dangerous,
unpredictable creature, at least on the outside.

Now, I've had a fascination with werewolves since I was young (along with
other elements of the supernatural) to the point that I once wrote a paper
on lycanthropy for a biology class. But I hadn't felt inspired to write a
werewolf, or any other kind of story.

Soon before Torquere Press released the call for this anthology, I saw an
entry on the website ancientworlds.net about something I'd never heard of:
an Irish werewolf tradition, different from the usual violent werewolf
stories of the time. According to this article, Irish werewolves were
protectors and healers, and it was an honor to be one. I thought it would
make an interesting background for a werewolf story, and filed it away.

When the Torqued Tales call was released, I thought, What's a twist on the
usual wolf story? A wolf with a calling, maybe? Thus Alec Conroy was born,
and along with him Rory Goodwin, who will not let anyone hurt his wolf.

The Favor, a Hammer story

This story totally didn't go where I expected it to when I first had Erik show up and tell me he was a Dom but he wanted to lose his virginity. But that's okay, because in the end the characters did what they wanted (as they always do) and I'm really happy with how the story turned out. Weirdly, despite the fact that this is a Hammer Club book and both Erik and Lion are Doms, this is not a BDSM book, but as I said, I've got to go where the characters take me!

Blurb: Erik wants to know what his subs feel, so he’s planning on losing his virginity. To that end, he enlists the help of his best friend and mentor, Lion. Things get intense when Lion insists the only man he trusts for the job is himself. How will this affect their friendship?

Excerpt:

Lion's lips twitched and when Brandon left, a little extra wiggle in his walk, Erik's best friend chuckled. "And you called me a flirt."

"Hey, a man needs to get him some ass sometime."

Lion put his head back and laughed. God, Lion looked good. Blond and buff, looking like the picture of the All-American boy -- no sub could resist the man. Sometimes Erik thought no hot-blooded gay, sub or not, could resist the man.

"So what's on show tonight?" Lion asked.

"Hell, man, shit if I know. I've been working." He shrugged, rolling his head on his shoulders again.

Lion's foot nudged his under the table. "You not interested tonight?"

"Huh? Interested in what?" God, he needed to just get out of his head.

"Well, I did mean the show, but maybe you're not into dinner either."

"What? No. Shit, no. I look forward to this all week, man." He sighed, pushed his hand through his thick hair, smoothing it back into its ponytail. He should cut it short like Lion, really. It would be less trouble. "Honestly, I got something on my mind and I don't know how to bring it up."

"It's not like you to be shy. Especially with me. Just spit it out."

"Bossy old man." He chuckled. He'd known Lion since they were teenagers. Hell, Lion was the best Dom he knew; the man had trained him to top.

"Yeah, that's me." Lion chuckled, sat back and shot him a look. "So?"

"I. Well, to be honest." Erik swallowed hard. "I want you to help me find someone to help me lose my virginity."

The Favor will be available April 24!

Diamonds are forever. And for April.

Good morning! I'm Jameson Dash, and I'm your host here today, with a brand new book for you, A Great Rough Diamond.

Once upon a time, there was a deeper meaning in each precious stone assigned to each month. Your birthstone was your symbol. And the diamond is the most powerful of them all.

But when I started thinking about writing something for the Torquere Birthstones line, and I saw the deadline for April coming up, I thought diamonds would be easy. Then I thought, "Diamonds are TOO easy." So, I looked as far away from the stone as I could. I looked where I often look for inspiration when I write. I looked to music.

A silver record isn't impossible. I bet Rootabaga!, Charlie's band in A Great Rough Diamond, could sell 100k records on the college campus circuit. Maybe if they made a video, and it went viral, they could sell 500k and get that gold record for their studio wall. But one million for platinum?

If that sounds like a dream, can you even imagine how much Charlie would love to have a record go diamond? Ten million people who went out and bought his music and might be listening to it right now? That was Charlie's dream. Now his dream is Wes.

A Great Rough Diamond is a contemporary romance about what happens after the happily ever after. It's hard to stay in love when there are cats to feed and snow to shovel and people always in your house. This Diamond is about Wes's dream, and one crazy house party, and how he fights with and for and because of Charlie. It's about making music and making love.

I want everyone to read this book, so I have a free copy to give away. But first, I want you to tell me about your dream--whether it's the one you've been working towards since you were young or the hilarious one you had last night. Comment on this post, and I will draw one name tomorrow for a free copy.

Let's settle in during these April showers and tell some stories.

Everything comes to a head in a drunken declaration, which might be a proposal, except instead of a diamond, Charlie offers up Michael Jackson's Thriller. Music is what brought them together, what made them fall in love, and the biggest part of their life, but even Wes doesn't know what Michael Jackson has to do with Charlie down on one knee.

Getting Out of Bed

In doing my preparation for today's post, I found it incredibly difficult to find good pictures of "bed" or "comfortable bed."  Don't get me started on "royalty free bed picture."  Fugeddaboudit!

Which, actually, seques nicely into my point for the day: I don't want to get out of bed, but what exactly is that indefinable quality that makes a "bed" something more than the sum of its parts?  If it's that difficult just to find pictures of one, then how the heck does one invent a bed for a science-fiction plot?

In EMERALD FIRE, our first release from Torquere Press, we designed a culture around homecaring in a harsh environment. What kinds of elements would be brought forward by settlers and what, by necessity, must be left behind?  If the very act of homecaring is elevated to art, what does that artistic expression manifest as?  (As what does it manifest?  To coffee, I must go!)

We decided one of the major pieces of this expression would be found in pillows.  In EMERALD FIRE, our main character Teeka is a needlework artist, which means he excels at needlepoint and embroidery. He is also an accomplished weaver and knitter and can make all sorts of soft furnishings. But since his first assignment is out on Stake, which is essentially camping for an extended period of time, a lot of extra - not to mention, delicate - furnishings aren't practical. Enter the humble pillow.

Let me ask you a question - how many pillows do you have on your bed or on furniture in your home? Growing up, I always assumed folks had lots of pillows. My grandmother loved exotic decorations and had a flair for Asian and Middle Eastern design; both of those use a lot of pillows.  My mother inherited some of that flair and we had lots of pillows in our house and I, in turn, have many in mine. It wasn't until I started thinking about my surroundings relative to a harsh desert world, and compared and contrasted the two, that I started to realize how culture-specific and personal pillows and bedrooms are.

We are working on the sequel now, called EMERALD KEEP, and plan to submit it in the next month or so (wish us luck).  Rest assured, not only will Teeka and Quill return, as will the truffles, but we will have lots and lots of pillows.  What about you? If you could create a world to your specifications, what would you absolutely have to include? If you traveled to space, what would be in your luggage?

Mr Fairfield is a gay teacher in highschool. One of his students Turner is also gay and a complete no experience at all virgin. Cass another ex student of Mr Fairfields is involved with him and they decide on new years to deflower the your Turner.

This is a good quickie. The pacing is great and the sex scenes in it are well done. Perhaps the most impressive part is that for just 18 pages the story managed to be have it all and than some. It was all that and a big of teacher student chips.

Jeremy is getting pierced again by Chase. Dennis is a tattoo artist who works with Chase. After some work Dennis gets Chase to get a tattoo. It is his first as her is a piercing kind of guy. During his tattoo session the two discover a mutual crush and begin a special session behind the tattoo curtains.

It was exciting to read about the tattoo type theme. Upon reading all the harsh language it took the erotica mood right out of it. Being a tattooed person I have never been to a parlor where the people there spoke like that.

Natalie owns a restaurant. Cam is one of her employees as well as is her chef husband. Anderson has his eye on  Cam and is always seated at table 26 to get him as a server. Cam agrees to go on a trip with his new lover to Boston. During this trip Cam gets to meet Anderson's family and of course they disagree with the class difference of a server and an investor being together. The trip causes Cam to change his life completely start his own restaurant and might bring Anderson back into his life permanently.

This was a good story. I liked that it wasn't all about the poor person being rescued by the rich partner. There was a sense of empowerment in it that I really liked with Cam. It was an overall well paced story but got a bit slow with the family dynamics for me.
