Almost everyone has some kind of morning ritual, whether it involves getting kids ready for school, getting ready for work, or any number of plans for the day. For me, my ritual starts around 6 AM. James (my son) is always the first one awake. We get up, he gets his bath and breakfast, does any homework, then spends a little while playing Minecraft on his dad's computer. Nadia gets up around 6:30 or 7, and basically follows the same routine. They catch the bus at 8:10, and then MY day begins.
My favorite part of the day is a small window of time when the kids are gone and it's just me and the pup. My oldest daughter and my partner are still sound asleep, and the house is blessedly quiet. That's when I do one of my favorite activities: yoga. I have a yoga mat--hunter green, ultra-comfy, and a crimson pillow to sit on, but sometimes, I just go into my yoga sequence right in the middle of my kitchen. Why? The kitchen is my domain. I'm an avid cook, and that's where I love to be.
My sequence is gentle and short (about 15 to 20 minutes), but it's become absolutely necessary to me. I practice hatha yoga, and the poses I do are easy on my back and other joints that tend to ache (especially in the colder, rainier weather like today).
Once I'm done, I grab some breakfast and my end of the loveseat (because the pup has the other end), and then it's time to write. Or promo. Or goof around online. I usually end up on Facebook and chatting on various Yahoo groups. I check my class (Art Institute, that is--back in school, finally) multiple times a day, and somewhere in all of that, I manage to get a few words scribbled here and there.
So, that's my daily routine in a nutshell, and it all starts with a morning ritual I can't function without these days.
What about y'all?

Congrats on being back in school! That's awesome. My husband works for AI; small world, no?
I have several routines, and, like you, find yoga to be essential to my ability to move around. I walk to work, and I do morning pages daily. I love the image of you doing yoga in your kitchen! That's awesome. 2 C flour, downward facing dog. Woot!
LOL Thanks, hun! He works for AI? Cool! Is he an instructor?
*snickers* Pretty much!
My morning ritual involves getting a cup of coffee (with a dash of milk, no sugar), then a cup of earl grey tea. With that, suddenly I can feel the sun shining through my window, LOL
Can't live without caffeine ...
I totally understand the tea bit. Love it! Never quite got the hang of coffee, though. Tried it a few times, in varying ways... bleh. LOL
haha, I see... then let's have a tea party! :D
*grins* Deal! I love baking. :D
He's work in the Technology department and keeps the network and stuff running. He also goes there as a student in Digital Photography.
I should have mentioned coffee; like Anna, I need me some of the bean juice!
Cool! I've met a ton of photography students since starting. Seems like a wildly popular major. O.o
I go to my engieering job during the week. The part I love about my morning ritual is the 30 minute walk through a small path at the edge of an originally mideval English town. It's a beautiful walk. I shall post something detailed about it come my day to look after the blog. :^)
