Research and World Building – Teeka’s Special Hair Tea Blend

One of the best aspects of world building is getting to create an entire culture from scratch. In writing Emerald Fire, we worked on the elements that each of the Keeps have in common, one of which is the custom of tea. While it varies between Keeps, each of them share the custom of creating personal blends for various purposes.

Teeka loves to create blends for hair care and skin care. Making these kinds of blends is surprisingly simple, and doesn’t cost a lot of money. One of the easiest is a simple hair rinse, a hair tea, that highlights the color of your hair.

For blond hair, chamomile
For brunette hair, rosemary
For red hair, marigolds

1 to 4 heaping tablespoons of the herb go into a nonmetal pot with 1 cup of water. Cover and bring to a boil, and simmer for three to five minutes. Pour out over a strainer and use the herbs in your garden as compost. Let the mixture cool and pour over your hair.

The fun thing is that these are ultra-simple recipes. One can get a lot more complicated with one’s blends by adding other kinds of herbs. There are other techniques to use with one’s hair, from the way one washes it and dries it to the simple act of everyday brushing that pay dividends in a head of full, healthy hair.

This is just a small taste of all the bounty in store for the writer when they decide to take a hobby and apply it to their writing.

Enjoy!

Okay, I had no idea what 'hair tea' was, but that's...sort of awesome.

Definitely sounds like you took something you love and...made something new with it. Rock on.

Yeah, maybe not. But give me time. Today, Torquere. Tomorrow, the WORLD! Hair Teas by Noony!

Yeah, maybe not. But I can dream, right? It was great fun to give that passion to my character and make it an integral part of the world.

I agree, Rachel! He really was fun to write. I loved looking up actual peacocks with you, too. The pictures make me smile and think of our boy.

Thanks, Darla! I'm so pleased to hear you adore him. ~preens~ He's pretty awesome. He was a lot more yaoi than we originally were used to writing, and it was fun to create that balance - and to create a culture to back up his behavior.
